After you have made the decision to start your collection and have gotten your first sporting collectible item, then it is time to start thinking about how you will store or display your collection. You will need to decide if you want your autographed collection to contain pieces that you are definitely going to keep or perhaps there are some items that you will want to sell or give away. Once you know what you will be keeping, you then need to figure out how you want to display or store them.

After you have decided on which items you are interested in keeping, you will have to decide which of the different autographed sports collectibles you are going to store away and which ones you want to display. There are some questions that you can ask yourself if you have trouble deciding on which to store and which to display. For instance, do you like one particular item, like your autographed football, enough to put it out for display? Perhaps not every one of your items is meaningful enough that you will want to look at it every day.

If you have larger pieces in your collection, then you will want to be sure that you have enough space to display them without it looking overly crowded and junky. You also want to be sure that each sport collectible is suitable enough to be displayed, as some older items are very fragile, and dust, moisture and light can be very harmful.

As a general rule most people suggest that you pick only a few of your favorite pieces of signed memorabilia and either place them in a display case, or consider sport memorabilia framing for jerseys, and then perhaps plan to store the rest. Some collectors will even swap items out, displaying one or two pieces for awhile and then putting those away and picking new ones to display.

Since there is a good chance that you will have to store a sporting collectible or two, the type of storage you choose is very important as you want to avoid damage and deterioration. The type of storage depends upon many factors, such as the type of material and age of the item, and the climate of the environment. A good rule of thumb is to choose an area in your home that is climate controlled, if possible, in order to provide the best possible conditions so that the value of the items will continue to increase.
